3 Things you must be pleased with

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri (radi Allahu anhu) narrated Allah’s Messenger (SallAllahu alayhi wa salam) said: ‘ Whoever says “I am pleased with Allah as Lord, Islam as a religion and Muhammad as a Messenger ‘, has earned Paradise.”

Collected by Abu Dawud (525) graded as being Sahih by Al-Albani.

Benefits for this subject:

“I am pleased with Allah as Lord…”  I’m satisfied and content with Allah alone and I will not supplicate to anything other than Him.

“Islam as a religion…”  I will not follow a path other than Islam, and I will only perform acts that agree with the legislation of Muhammad (SallAllahu alayhi wa salam)

“Muhammad as a Messenger…”  I am satisfied and comfortable that Muhammad is my Messenger and a Messenger for every Muslim. (Explanation of Sunnan Abu Dawud by Al-‘Aynee)

Shaykh Abdul Muhsin Al-Abbaad (may Allah preserve him) said: The three things included in this supplication are the same three principles Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab based his book on. The book Usul At-Thalatha is for the servant to know his Lord, his religion, and his Prophet Muhammad (sallAllahu alayhi wa salam).

Usul At-Thalatha is a remarkable concise book that every Muslim must have. Every individual is asked about these three things in the grave. He is asked about his religion, his Lord, and his Prophet Muhammad.

It has been mentioned that a person should say this supplication with the Athan, and during the morning and evening remembrances of Allah. (Explanation for Sunnan Abu Dawud).

An-Nawawi said: ‘ After the Mu’athin says, “I bear witness that Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger”, a person should say:  “I am pleased with Allah as Lord, Islam as a religion and Muhammad as a Messenger ‘ (explanation Sahih Muslim)

An-Nawawi mentioned in Al-Athkar : There are two narrations for this supplication. One mentions Muhammad (sallAllahu alayhi wa salam) as a Prophet and the other as a Messenger. Therefore it’s recommended to say the supplication like this:

رَضِيتُ بِاللَّهِ رَبًّا وَبِالإِسْلاَمِ دِينًا وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ نبيًا و رَسُولاً

“I am pleased with Allah as Lord, Islam as a religion and Muhammad as a Prophet and Messenger.”

Through mentioning the two descriptions given to him (sallAllahu alayhi wa salam) with the conjunction “and”, this is acting in agreement with both narrations.

Allah knows best.
