Instead of Saying: “ Sadaqallahul Atheem”, Say…

Aisha (Radi Allahu an ha) narrated that whenever the Prophet (sallahu Alayhi wa salam) sat in a gathering, read the Quran, or prayed he said some words afterwards. Aisha (Radi Allahu An ha) asked him (about what he would say) she said: “ Oh Messenger of Allah I notice that whenever you sit in a gathering, read the Quran or pray that afterwards you says something? He (sallahu alayhi wa salam) said : “ Yes, if a person has said something good it will be seal for him to preserve that good, and if he has said something bad it will be an expiation for him” Subhanaka wa bi hamdika,la illa ha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk (glory and praise be to You, There is absolutely no diety worthy of worship ,but You, I seek Your Forgiveness and I repent to You.

Benefits for this topic:

  • After a sitting, reading the Quran and Praying it’s Sunnah to say: Subhanaka wa bi hamdika,la illa ha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

  • Aisha’s (Radi Allahu An ha) strong zeal for knowledge. This is displayed by her questioning the Prophet (sallahu alayhi wa salim) in a matters of worship that would benefit her.

  • It’s not Sunnah to say: “ Sadaqallahul Atheem” after reading the Quran.
  • This thikr of Allah is an expiation for errors.

  1. Asalamualaikum,
may Allaah bless you and increase us in knowledge, is it sufficent for one person to say it or does every person in the gathering say it to themselves?

    1. wa alaykum as salam,

Reading Quran in a unison isn’t from the Sunnah. If one person says this dua after he reads the Quran then it’s enough and Allah knows best.
