The Shia’s Rejection of Ali ibn Abee Talib

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

They say the proof of your love for an individual is your adherence to way and acceptance of his path. Allah challenges us.

Allah said: Say (O Muhammad  to mankind): “If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”[ Ali-Imran:31]

This verse is the test to measure the sincerity of a person’s love for Allah, which can be manifested by following and obeying the Prophet (ﷺ). Now the Shia claim they love Ali, but do they follow him? Here let’s look at 14 authentic narrations from Ali. Each narration is the speech and actions from Ali that  the Shia reject.

1: Ali destroys the notion the Pophet advised him to be the Caliph after him.

`Ali bin Abu Talib came out of the house of the Prophet (ﷺ) during his fatal ailment. The people asked (`Ali), “O Abu Hasan! How is the health of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) this morning?” `

Ali said, “This morning he is better, with the grace of Allah.” Al-`Abbas held `Ali by the hand and said, “Don’t you see him (about to die)? By Allah, within three days you will be the slave of the stick (i.e., under the command of another ruler). By Allah, I think that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) will die from his present ailment, for I know the signs of death on the faces of the offspring of `Abdul Muttalib. So let us go to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) to ask him who will take over the Caliphate. If the authority is given to us, we will know it, and if it is given to somebody else we will request him to recommend us to him. ”

`Ali said, “By Allah! If we ask Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) for the rulership and he refuses, then the people will never give it to us. Besides, I will never ask Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) for it.”[1]

2: The Shia are extremely fanatical towards Ali and Ali rejected this.

Ali (رضي الله عنه ) said:  “ Some people will love so much that it will cause them to enter Hell and others will hate me so much that they will enter the fire.[2]

Ali said to the people of Najran, “ Umar was rightly guided in all affairs and I wont changed anything that he has put in place.”[6]

  1. The shia reject the Sunnah of Umar, but Ali loved it.

`Ali bin Abi Talib. `Ali invoked Allah’s Mercy for `Umar and said, “O `Umar! You have not left behind you a person whose deeds I like to imitate and meet Allah with more than I like your deeds. By Allah! I always thought that Allah would keep you with your two companions, for very often I used to hear the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, ‘I, Abu Bakr and `Umar went (somewhere); I, Abu Bakr and `Umar entered (somewhere); and I, Abu Bakr and `Umar went out.”‘[7]

  1. The Shia say Uthman was a Kafir but Ali praised him.

One day on the Minbar Ali read the verse : Verily those for whom the good has preceded from Us, they will be removed far therefrom (Hell)[ Al-Anbiyah :101}

Then said : Uthman is included among these people in this verse.[8]

  1. The Shia reject the permissibility of wiping over footwear.

Ali ibn Abu Talib: If the religion were based on opinion, it would be more important to wipe the under part of the shoe than the upper but I have seen the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) wiping over the upper part of his shoes.[9]

Should I not send you on the same mission as Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) sent me? Do not leave an image without obliterating it, or a high grave without levelling It.[14]
