Distortions in the Bible

By Imam Ibn Hazm [456H]

The Torah Accuses Ibrahim (Abraham) of Doubting Allah’s Ability and not Fully Trusting Him

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In Genesis 15: 7-8 of the King James Version there are words that show Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) doubted his Lord’s Words.

And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it. And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

Ibn Hazm said : May Allah forbid that Ibrahim (u) would say those words to his lord. This kind of speech is from a person who doesn’t fully trust Allah and requests further proof for his speech.

Now if an ignorant person says well in the Quran it states that Ibrahim said, “And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said, “My Lord! Show me how You give life to the dead.”[ 2:260] and after Allah promised Zakariyah (Zachariah) son called Yahya he said: “O my Lord! Make a sign for me.” [3:41]

These verses compared to what was mentioned in Genesis about Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) are totally different. Ibrahim’s request to see how life is given to the dead was so that his heart could be at ease by witnessing how it happens. i.e to increase his faith

Allah said: “Do you not believe?” He [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: “Yes (I believe), but to be stronger in Faith.” [2:260]

Ibrahim didn’t ask Allah for that in order to remove doubt, but instead to strengthen his faith and Zakariyah asked his lord for a sign so that people wouldn’t think he was lying, as mentioned by his words. However, what are mentioned in the Torah about Ibrahim are words of doubt. He’s asked him for evidence to know if what Allah stated was true. May Allah forbid!
